WELCOME TO COOKY GROW (VEGETABLES)
On this section i am going to give you lots of information on growing vegetables.I am a novice at growing vegetables,so you will see my harvest, also my failures as life is not perfect.I do not use chemicals like many other people but i must confess i have used slug pellets. They have stopped a fair amount of my crop from being devoured by the already extremely fat slugs that have taken up residence on the allotment patch. They have enjoyed their banquet from my labour.Working on the allotment gives me lots of exercise
and time to reflect on my week.I get the benefit of giving many, organic vegetables grown by myself. You get a bit of feel good factor when you grow your own vegetables. It is a bit like creating something. One minute there is a patch of ground full of weeds and after some hard word it is created into a fantastic vegetable garden.Have a look at the free video and put your opinions on cooky chat to let people know how you grow your vegatables. Broad Bean Plants
Believe it or not this is not a jungle. It is broad beans.I have just finished putting stakes in all around them to support them.So the wind does not blow them over.I suppose my next job will be to get rid of many of those weeds around the beans now.I about 4-6 weeks there might be a harvest of beans.I will keep you posted and the show you how to cook them
Young Cabbages
I put these cabbages in, on the second week in may.A little worried about a late frost, as i have just lost a row of runner beans.I put a few slug pellets down.I didnt want to, but the slugs and snails go mad and will eat everything in sight .As you can see i have dug the ground over and raked it, so the soil looks black rich and peaty.I will keep you updated, on how they get on.
Cabbages
Well back to the cabbages. They have grown a bit dont you think.By the way if you come on here and want to chat to any one go on my cooky chat on the home page.Just thought i would get that in.It is a bit of a fight with these cabbages because the bugs, snails, slugs and anything else you can think of absolutely love it.I am trying to keep the weeds at bay and luckily they are getting quite a bit of water due to all the rainfall we have been getting.I will keep you up to date on how they get on anyway.
Young sweetcorn
I started the sweetcorn off in the polytunnel and it was ready last weekend to go into the ground. It looks ok does it not.Well i dont confess to be an expert veggie grower but i do my best to get some sort of decent crop each year.I always fancied growing sweetcorn but never had the nerve to try it.As i have seen others grow it around me i thought i love it i am gonna grow it.So lets see what happens with the sweetcorn .Its something i am looking forward to.
Sweetcorn
