On this link I will be giving you many tips that I have used myself, to grow fruit and vegetables. I would like to encourage, many of you, just to find a little space, or a pot and have a go at growing something. You may amaze yourself and even give yourself a new hobby or transform a space in your garden into serving a purpose. Allotment chat
Well it is June. I went on holiday for a week and it was lovely and hot,but it has been lovely and hot here also. Just before we went away it poured down and now there is lots of sunshine. That can only mean one thing down on the allotment. Yes you got it right a growing frenzy, of course you are thinking crops but I mean weeds, plenty of them. I have spent many hours on friday weeding so I actually get the crops I have planted and watering. After about 4 hours which went by like it was nothing I went home to prepare wraps for the family thinking the salad should be my own produce, but nothing is ready yet. Dont worry I will be adding lots of pictures ans giving plenty of advice that all the expert gardeners will take no notice of,and quite rightly too. After all I am a novice grower, but I do produce the goods, the bacon goes on the table as they say in some parts,or is it the bread. Anyway I had some spuds that had seeded in my vegetable rack at home so it was time to go back to the allotment after I helped my daughter fix her car for the MOT. I hate MOTs but I suppose they have to be done. Anyway looking at the sprouted spuds and knowing I had a big patch that needed digging out I got out the fork, spade and rake. After 3 hours of relentless back breaking work I had got on top of it. I dug out trenches of about a foot deep and threw the spuds in about a foot apart and then covered them with lots of loose earth. Leave it loose so the spuds can grow better. If you stamp on the soil it makes them harder to grow and dig up too. How much is it for a bag of spuds I ask myself. Well look at it this way I have made use of the sprouting spuds,I have had a fair amount of exercise, this in turn has kicked in happy endorphins,I tell myself and in the process I have burned up some calories. That is without the fact that in about 3 months I will have some nice organic grow potatoes that should yield 20lb + at a guess anyway. I planted about 30 small seeded potatoes about 5 - 8lb in weight. Now I know what you are thinking, why did you not pull the shoots off, well these had gone too far that they start going woody. Anyway when they are ready I will add a picture. After this I scored out three small trenches half inch deep and put in radish seeds then covered them, later watering them. I also planted some climbing french beans but planted them about an inch deep, then I watered them in. So tats it for this weekend, keep looking on this link and I will give you an account of how things have been going on with the cooky allotment and believe me it is cooky. Well from one knackered Cooky Rob, I stink and need a shower. Will catch up soon !!
